23.7.2010 Updated the Elan parts catalogue to include chassis components and a new improved alloy oil filler cap. The oil filler cap has been CNC machined from an aluminium billet to produce a very high quality component that is an exact replica of the original Lotus item. The cap incorporates a rubber O-ring underneath to ensure an oil tight seal when screwed into the threaded insert. The combination of two threaded components provides a correctly engineered solution that is sure to compliment any Lotus Twin Cam engine. The alloy cap is supplied with a simple threaded insert that may be installed in any relevant Lotus vehicle that utilizes a 907, 910, 912 engine or the legendary Lotus Twin Cam engine. Once the insert is installed, the polished cap is simply screwed into the cam cover where it takes on the appearance of the original item. If required, a full machining and installation service can be provided at additional cost. Please inquire about service costs It has been noted that inferior designed alloy filler caps incorporate an external helical groove for the original locking pins to engage in. This design does not consider the consequences of hard steel pins rubbing in the external groove and shaving off metal particles from the softer alloy cap. Ultimately any metal removed whilst screwing and unscrewing the cap will enter the engine and be circulated by the oil. With constant engine vibration, the hard steel pins will gradually erode the soft cap even when fastened. 12.7.2010 The new 2012 Lotus Esprit is to be unvailed at the Paris Motor Show in September New Lotus Esprit 11.7.2010 Updated the Lotus Elan catalogue to include details of the fixed and removable water pump components Updated the Ford performance parts catalogue to include details of light weight steel flywheels and forged steel crankshafts 10.7.2010 Updated the Lotus Elan catalogue to include details of stainless steel brake pistons 10.7.2010 FOR SALE - Personalised number plate to suit any Lotus Please see showroom for further information 20.4.2010 FOR SALE - Lotus twin cam engine complete with cylinder head This engine is fitted with a Lotus Twin Cam cylinder head designed to accept twin Stromberg carburettors. The pedal assembly may also be supplied in kit form at a discounted price. Lotus Elan Parts catalogue. Updated Lotus Esprit parts list 31.1.2009 Every Lotus Twin Cam engine is now dimensionally different and this makes it difficult to build an oil tight engine. However, this can be achieved by carefully selecting the correct lip seals, gaskets and sealants. One area that requires special attention is the cylinder head to timing chest joint. It is essential to select the correct thickness gasket so as not to over compress the cork material and ensure an oil tight joint. The components that influence the correct timing chest gasket thickness are:- a) The height of the cylinder block b) The installed height of the timing chest c) The head gasket thickness Dummy installing the Lotus cylinder head on the cylinder block with a head gasket allows the critical measurement to be made between the cylinder head and the top of the timing chest. Once this measurement is known then the correct cork gasket may be selected. The Lotus Elan parts catalogue has been update to include a choice of five different thicknesses of top timing chest gasket. These visits were always something to look forward to as there was constant development of both cars and associated technology. Visiting the Factory during the early 1980's also allowed enthusiasts to wander around the Lotus museum. During one such visit an Esprit was on display which was fitted with active suspension. Does anyone know where this vehicle is today? Details of this amazing car can be viewed by downloading the following document Esprit active suspension 20.11.2008 Added Turbo Esprit engine rebuild document to customer projects section 11.11.2008 PLEASE DON'T SMOKE MY ELISE Lotus have incorporated a new green technology into the body panels of the latest Elise that contains hemp. The following article is courtesy of Motor Industry Magazine, October 2008 Lotus Eco Elise 10.11.2008 Updated Elan parts list 09.11.2008 With a constant demand to rebuild Lotus engines often comes requests for more power. We are happy to accommodate these types of modifications but customers need to understand it is no longer a simple matter of increasing compression ratio or raising the boost on a turbo-charged engine. The demise of leaded fuel presents a new set of challenges when rebuilding or modifying any Lotus engine. The most significant factor is the variable quality of any fuel on a given day. Even though the fuel companies provide an octane rating for unleaded fuel and premium unleaded fuel, our experiences shows the octane rating is variable. It has also been observed that fuel no longer stores very well and the lighter hydro-carbons are easily depleted from the fuel over a short period of time. Perhaps "variable octane rating" fuel would be better controlled if it were given a Military Specification where it had to meet a guaranteed minimum octane rating? Using poor quality fuel in a high compression/high performance engine can cause significant damage to piston crowns and rings. The introduction of poor quality fuel has lead to the availability of numerous octane boosters, but how do you determine which product delivers value for money. Fortunately there have been independent tests carried out on these products and a several of them have proven to deliver real benefits. As a result of this we stock and sell Amsoil Series 2000 Octane boost and Nulon Pro Octane Booster. For a comprehensive analysis and explanation about octane boosters, see the following document. Lotus Engineering are no exception to this philosophy and have developed the Lotus Exige 270E. This vehicle is designed to run on petrol, bioethanol or methanol. The ultimate objective is for the vehicle to be carbon neutral by running on synthetic methanol. For more information about this innovative design see the following website. www.greencar.com/features/lotus-exige-tri-fuel/ 05.08.2008 Added oil and filter information to technical information section. This seven page document is from AMSOIL and explains in simple terms about the formulation, functionality, and classification of engine oil. The second part of the document explains why it is so important to install a quality oil-filter and air-filter on a performance engine. Consequently we stock AMSOIL engine oil, lubricants and range of AMSOIL filters to suit Lotus vehicles. Over the years, our investigations have constantly revealed that not all filters are created equal. Recently we compared two different brands of air filters that fit an Esprit. Brand "F" was a filter imported from the UK was found to have been manufactured in South Africa. Brand "R" was a filter sourced locally and when carefully examined, it was discovered that it had also been manufactured in South Africa. When the two filters were compared, the filter paper was identical, the metal reinforcing panel was the same steel and had been formed in the same press. The same ink jet printer had printed the relevant manufacturer's part numbers on the end of the paper element. However, there were two major differences found between the two filters. Brand "R" contained 30% less paper pleats (less surface area/filtering capacity) and was more expensive than the filter imported from the UK. Do you know if you are installing a quality filter in your Lotus and providing the best possible protection? If you are unsure, then give us a call and we would be pleased to advise which is the best filter to suit your car and application. 02.08.2008 Recently Caterham Cars celebrated 50 years production of the Seven. This is an amazing feat that such an exciting icon has captured the imagination of so many owners. Having built and owned one of these vehicles in 1983, prompts fond memories and a driving experience like no other car. This can be best described as "point and squeeze". Caterham Cars have also produced an exciting video entitled "50 Years of Driving Thrills". The video says it all. To see the video, visit the Caterham Cars website www.caterham.co.uk/assets/html/fifty_years/video 29.07.2008 Lotus Cars has finally announced the official name for Project Eagle This vehicle will be known as the Lotus Evora For more details visit the website www.lotusevora.com 28.07.2008 Long time friend David Mirylees recently contacted us with details of a new e-journal entitled be-Low Flying. The following information is an extract from the Repco Australia Trade Zone magazine (01/02/08 - 29/02/2008). Spotted inside the front cover was the following information:- Air Conditioning Gas R134a The most common refrigerant for automotive air conditioning is HFC R134a. This well established product is globally accepted and non flammable. Our refrigerant supplier A-Gas, imports this product from overseas manufacturers in bulk before storing and decanting into cylinders on-site at Laverton in Melbourne. 0134012 R134a, 12kg cylinder @ AUS$199-00 excluding GST 0134022 R134a, 22Kg cylinder @ AUS$365-00 excluding GST UV134a UV134a is R134a pre-mixed with UV dye which is added to facilitate leak detection. This product is blended at A-Gas facilities. U134012 UV134a, 12kg cylinder @ AUS$225-00 excluding GST U134022 UV134a, 22kg cylinder @ AUS$410-00 excluding GST SP-34E Now there's no excuse for slow pull down times, or excessive wear and tear on auto air-conditioning systems, due to poorly performing refrigerant SOLPOWER SP-34E will out perform standard R134a, in both power efficiency and pull down time. SOLPOWER SP-34E is a near-azeotrope HFC, with next to zero glide. It's compatible with all types of oils and its non-flammable. This is where it gets interesting for Lotus owners whose vehicles were originally had air-conditioning systems filled with R12 gas. SOLPOWER SP-34E outperforms standard R134a in contemporary vehicles and, when retro-fitting R12 systems, you only need to replace the dryer. It's that simple! One refrigerant to fill all your R134a and R12 requirements! Extensive trials suggest that once customer's running a vehicle on SOLPOWER SP-34E they're never going to want to change back to R134a just for the sake of saving a few dollars in the overall cost of a service 34E0012 SP34, 12Kg cylinder @ AUS$330-00 excluding GST 14.11.2007 Gavin Kronberg kindly contacted The Elan Factory requesting the invitation below be extended to all Lotus 7 owners for the following event. The Geelong Speed Trials on the 25th of November to include a display of Lotus & Caterham 7's for the 50th Birthday Year. Hi My Name is Gavin Kronberg, I am the owner of a Caterham 7 here in Melbourne. With the help of my good friend James Killingsworth, we are trying to get as many Lotus and Caterham 7's together for the 25th of November Speed Trial display in Geelong. Can you pass this info onto the Lotus Club members who own either model so we can get as many as possible to attend. We are hoping for "real" cars, but are happy to get good copies to attend, like PRB and Frazer if available. It would be good to rally together as many as we can. I have my Caterham and James has a Lotus 7 plus a Caterham. We have asked Chris Van Wyk to display the latest Caterham model he is importing and selling. Plus we have 2 or 3 more cars we know of who have given a "will try" to get there. Hoping you can help draw a few more out of there sheds for public viewing. Our Understanding is the car displays will kick off around 10.00am so it is best to arrive earlier then that. Plus I believe they are looking for a $10 donation to display the car. Please feel free to pass my email address and phone number onto these owners Regards & Have a great day Gavin Kronberg 0421 972511 gkronberg@optusnet.com.au 31.10.2007 Added Lotus Esprit Turbo alternator problems to technical information 26.10.2007 Added V8 Esprit alternator repair, October 2007 to customer projects Updated the Lotus Elan Parts catalogue. 25.10.2007 Updated Lotus Esprit parts list which includes details of upper and lower engine mount washers 15.10.2007 Added X180 Esprit, September 2007 to customer projects 13.10.2007 Added 1989 Excel SA, October 2007 to customer projects 06.10.2007 Added Lotus Elan adjustable top suspension arms to product datasheets 05.10.2007 Added Lotus Esprit alloy fuel tank to product datasheets 17.09.2007 Added Lotus Esprit clutch release bearing A079Q4014J to product datasheets Added Lotus Esprit clutch release bearing A085Q4016J to product datasheets 16.09.2007 Added Lotus Esprit clutch release bearing A082Q6013J to product datasheets Added Red Line Oils website to links page 15.09.2007 Added new standard terms and conditions section to business profile 13.09.2007 Added Hastings Piston Ring website to links page 12.09.2007 Added Magnecor website to links page 11.09.2007 Added Lotus Esprit radiator fan cowling to product datasheets 09.09.2007 Updated the Lotus Elan Parts catalogue which includes details of Magnecor spark plug leads.
